Violence in the home affects thousands of employees every day. It decreases productivity and increases healthcare costs and absenteeism. It interferes with people’s capacity to accurately, safely and securely perform their duties at work. It has an adverse and disruptive effect on employee morale and affects the financial strength and success of a company as a whole. 
Employers have a unique opportunity to provide tools, assistance and resources for employees who need them. 
In this session, attendees will:

  • Hear from the Executive Director of a local domestic violence agency will speak about Domestic Violence Basics (What is it, how to recognize it, what to do, and who can help).
  • Hear from a Survivor as she tells her personal story about how her domestic violence situation affected her in the workplace.
  • Learn about the business impact of domestic violence on employers in terms of increased medical costs, lost productivity, safety, etc.
  • Learn how they can use a 6-step process for setting up a domestic violence awareness and response program in their own workplaces.
  • Learn about the legal requirements for employers relative to DV in the workplace (SAFE, FMLA, ADA, NJLAD, etc.)

Our Facilitators:
Jill Zinckgraf, MPA is currently the Executive Director of the Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Warren County and she is currently serving on the Board of Trustees for the New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault as the Treasurer.  Additionally, she is enrolled in an Organizational Leadership doctoral program at Stockton University with an anticipated graduation in May 2019.  She has been working and/or volunteering in the field of violence against women since she was a teenager. Over the past 35 years Jill has focused on the cultural impact of domestic violence and sexual assault as institutional violence and the consumption and production of inequality. Her focus has been on the empowerment model of moving those impacted by interpersonal violence forward, as well as advocating and inspiring the future generation to reduce the violence against all people. 

Dennis Butler, MBA, SHRM-SCP, SPHR is currently an HR Consultant and the former Chief HR & Compliance Officer for the Diocese of Paterson and the former VP, Associate Relations at Liz Claiborne Inc. where he developed and implemented policies, procedures and protocols for raising awareness of, and responding to, domestic violence as an issue in the workplace. Dennis is a co-founder and current Business Advisor of Catholics For Family Peace Education and Research Initiative which is part of the National Catholic School of Social Service’s Consortium for Catholic Social Teaching at the Catholic University of America.   Dennis has been a frequent speaker about domestic violence as a workplace issue at conferences and symposiums around the world. He has worked with governments, the UN and NGOs in Canada, Israel, Jordan, Turkey and Great Britain to establish domestic abuse awareness programs in their countries.  Dennis can be contacted at [email protected]

Howard Vex, Esq. is the Founding Partner of Vex Law, LLC, a boutique labor and employment law firm in Parsippany.  Prior to forming his new firm, Howard headed the Employment Law Department at Courter, Kobert & Cohen for ten years.  Howard has served as trusted employment and litigation counsel for a wide array of clients, from large national corporations, including M&M Mars and IDT, to numerous municipalities, school districts and smaller local businesses.  He also regularly serves as a Labor Arbitrator, Local Hearing Officer and Independent Investigator.  Howard is a graduate of Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and Rutgers Law School.  He can be contacted via email at: [email protected]
