Anatomy of a Deposition

Human Resources professionals are often intimately involved in workplace investigations that can lead to agency charges or lawsuits. While most are well versed in employment law and investigative techniques, very few know in advance what it is like to be deposed by a plaintiff’s attorney.

I’m Miffed that I’ve been Rif-ed!

Reductions in Force, a.k.a., “RIFs” are painful and difficult for everyone in the process: the person “RIF-ed”, the “Survivors” and the HR professionals responsible for planning and delivering the message.

Deciding how best to implement a rightsizing initiative can have a dramatic impact on a company. We know the initiative will make a dramatic impact on affected employees, but there are good ways and bad ways to launch such an effort. Leadership and the navigation of this change is key.

Presenter: Maya Ollson, MEd is Founder & Director of Kokopella Career & Business Consulting, an outplacement company. She brings 25 years experience in helping companies and employees manage Reductions In Force and job transitions. Maya is Chair of the Morris County SHRM Chapter’s Transition Services Program, is Vice President of Workforce Readiness, and President Elect for the chapter.

Lighten Up: a Creative and Light-Hearted Approach to Managing Stress

Stress is the leading cause of health issues, contributes arguing and fighting in relationships, reduces productivity, can manifest as depression, and is responsible for an overall dissatisfaction with life.

Workplace stress costs U.S. employers an estimated $200 billion per year in absenteeism, lower productivity, staff turnover, workers' compensation, medical insurance and other stress-related expenses. Considering this, stress management may be business's, and Human Resources, most important challenge of the 21st century.

Lighten Up will:

  • Accurately define the meaning of stress
  • Provide a clear understanding of where and how it originates
  • Distinguish between the ROOT cause and the triggers
  • Identify the warning signs of excessive and negative stress
  • Differentiate between temporary and chronic stress
  • Teach the "4 S's of Stress Reduction" and more than two dozen all natural no cost activities guaranteed to reduce anxiety

Janet PfeifferJanet is an award winning speaker and author and is the founder of Pfeiffer Power Seminars, LLC located in Oak Ridge, NJ.
